About The Gearheads

Established in 1998, Team 102 has a long hisotry of great robots and amazing team members. A relatively small team, represeting Somerville High School and the Somerville and Branchburg New Jersey communities, we strive to make a big impact by exemplifying our values of leadership and inclusivity, as well as personal and technical growth in our students, community and world. Our mentors believe their mission is “to build up our students, using robots.”

Scoutradioz™

One thing we’re most proud of is Scoutradioz™, our “Scouting as a Service” platform. Originally built for the 2018 season, we continually evolve and improve it to help teams around the world have the best scouting data available for their competitions. Today, we are pleased to provide a customizable scouting application with multi-language support, enhanced and maintained by Team 102 with the support of dedicated Team 102 alumni, mentors, students, and contributions by some amazing members of the FIRST community.

In 2024 we had over 50 teams actively use Scoutradioz™ for their competition scouting, and over 200 from around the world checking it out heading into 2025! We’d love to have you join the Scoutradioz™ family of teams.

RoboCon NJ

In addition to outreach programs in the Somerville & Branchburg NJ community, we are also one of the proud co-hosts of RoboCon NJ. For this amazing event, FIRST teams take over the Bridgewater Commons Mall for one weekend in September. The event includes opportunities for everyone to learn about FIRST Robotics through FIRST Lego League and FIRST Tech Challeng demonstrations, outreach booths from FIRST Robotics Competition teams, robot driving of real competition FRC and FTC robots, and even a full off-season FRC scrimmage with over 20 teams competing! It’s an unbelievable experience that literally spans the entire mall, and so many people come to check it out the mall management says, “It’s like Black Friday!” Check it out, you won’t be disappointed.
